Össur signs the United Nations Women‘s Empowerment Principles

Össur committed to the UN Global Compact initiative in 2011, committing the Company to follow the Global Compact principles in the areas of Environment, Labor Practices, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption. Furthering the commitment in the area of Human Rights, Össur has signed United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles.

In a global company like Össur, diversity in its broadest sense is important. Encouragement of diversity in the workplace is beneficial as it helps gain diverse perspectives from which to base decisions, which in turn lead to better results.

By signing the WEP Principles Jón Sigurðsson, has joined forces with over 760 business leaders from around the world, including world reknown companies such as Luis Vuitton, L‘Oreal, Coca Cola, Novo Nordisk and many more.

The Principles:

  • Principle 1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality
  • Principle 2: Treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination
  • Principle 3: Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers
  • Principle 4: Promote education, training and professional development for women
  • Principle 5: Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women
  • Principle 6: Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy
  • Principle 7: Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality
