Fantastic Start To The New Year For Team Össur Athlete Jody Cundy

Fantastic start to the year for Team Össur athlete Jody Cundy

Team Össur athlete Jody Cundy has had an exceptional end to 2018 and start to 2019, competing at the UCI London World Cup. This was a historic event within ParaCycling as it was the first ParaCycling competition integrated into an able-bodied World Cup.

Talking about the challenges of having a competition season at the end of the year, Cundy said “Christmas is always a funny time for athletes especially track cyclists, as it always falls slap bang in the middle of when you want to get some hard work done, but every year I manage to balance family life, and training as best as possible and I believe I got some good work done during the festivities this year and also managed not to over indulge too much.” This was an important time for Jody as the next race was the Manchester International ParaCycling during the 2nd week of January where, after a rocky start breaking the cleat on his cycling leg and scrambling to find the spare, he crossed the line in 1:04.614 ahead of Alfonso Cabello (ESP) and Jon Gildea (GBR) and a little quicker than the London World Cup.

The final day of the competition meant an early start for the team sprint, with Louis Rolfe out of the competition through illness and late addition Matthew Robertson joining. Qualifying went well with the team finishing at 50.512, just fractions of a second outside of their time from the London World Cup and Robertson achieving a personal best for his opening lap before handing off to Cundy. In this final, a new personal best was achieved again by Robertson and the team finished with a time of 49.844 taking a big chunk of their qualifying time to take the win from the GB B team.

Talking about his year so far Cundy says “All in all it’s been a fantastic start to the 2018-19 season and I’m looking forward to the national championships here in Manchester in 2 weeks time. Before completing the run in to the World Champs in Apledoorn March 14th-17th.” We are proud to sponsor Jody in his incredible efforts and are looking forward to see what successes undoubtedly come his way this year.
