The Life Without Cancer Team Exceed Expectations

After months of planning the Life without Cancer challenge is now over and the light has been turned off.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the Life without Cancer event, from those on the bikes and treadmill to those who attended the family fun day and most importantly...those who donated to this fantastic cause.

In addition to the cycling and running Össur UK welcomed friends and family to the office on Saturday afternoon to cheer on the teams, with kid’s games, a BBQ and even a table tennis tournament organised to help raise further funds for the cause.

What were the final stats?

In total the team travelled 2240 miles in 48 hours, which is the equivalent of travelling from London to Jerusalem using just 2 static bikes and a treadmill.

As it stands we have raised over £5,000 and the donations are still coming in which is fantastic and far exceeded our initial target of £2,000. Every penny counts and is going towards a fantastic cause, an organisation to devoted to offering a life without cancer.

What did those who took part think?

"The light is out but that will stay in my memory for a long time – what an experience"

Stewart Hogg

"The 48 hour challenge can be described with the following words; grit, determination, solidarity and positivity. I am so proud to be part of this group of people and what a group it is!"

Peter Gill

“It was amazing to be part of a time that cycled so far and raised so much money. It goes to show that it takes more than a bit of saddle soreness to stop a good team from achieving its goal!”

Giles Leeming

“It was an honour to be part of this and to see so many people come together to support Össur and The Christie“

Michael Core

We also filmed the whole thing, with the entire 48 hours condensed into just 22 seconds through the power of time lapse so you can see what you missed.

Who are the Christie?

All the money raised will go to The Christie charity, an organisation who fund life-changing and life-saving work to support cancer patients.

As the largest single site cancer centre in Europe they are dedicated to serve a population of over 3.2 million, with 26% of patients referred to them from across the UK. Named as one of the best hospitals providing opportunities for patients to take part in clinical research studies, they have over 550 active studies to help fight cancer.

The Christie offer invaluable support to not only cancer patients but their families, because cancer affects everyone and as such everyone should have the support they need.

We are all proud to have been part of such a special event and raising money for a worthy charity and playing a small part in the battle against cancer.

Thank you once again to everyone involved.

Warm Regards
