Sandie Waddell MBAPO

Orthotist/Prosthetist

Sandie WaddellSandie graduated from Strathclyde University in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 1986. She is registered with the UK Health Professions Council (HPC) and is a member of the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO).

Over her professional career she has specialised mainly in paediatrics and has also continued to develop her career within the adult sector taking a particular interest in biomechanics of the lower limb. As a Senior Paediatric Orthotist Sandie has worked closely with physiotherapists, podiatrists, paediatricians and orthopaedic consultants and has been instrumental in establishing multi disciplinary team work in her clinical practice.

Having worked extensively with children’s orthotics, she became aware of the issues surrounding head shape deformity and began to observe Steve Mottram’s work with the STARband™ in his Leeds centre.

As a practicing clinician, Sandie has been working alongside Mr. Mottram and has also received formal training in the U.S.A. from Orthomerica, the manufacturers of the STARband. She now has a full appreciation of the complexities of treating these very young babies and has successfully established herself as a key member within the broader STARband team environment. She now has her own caseload and is experienced at individually managing STARband treatment. As an active member of BAPO, initiating regional professional orthotic meetings in Yorkshire and speaking at  the other allied health professional meetings on paediatric orthotics, she is highly regarded within her field of work. She is married with 3 children and originally from Glasgow. She moved to Yorkshire 18 years ago and has been in continuous orthotic practice since then.

Sandie is a member of the Leeds Clinic team.
