How Does It Work
How Does it Work?- Infant’s head is scanned on STARscanner™
- Data is emailed to supplier
- Head shape data is downloaded on five-axis carver
- The STARband™ is fabricated out of high temperature plastic thermoformed over a carved, polyurethane model
- STARband is shipped to orthotist
- Infant receives STARband for initial fitting
- Follow-up visits scan infant for head shape comparisons to evaluate treatment progression
- Right tragion
- Left tragion
- Sellion
- Infant is placed supine into STARscanner on foam cushion
- Infant’s head is stabilized with hand below jaw and hand over the top of the head to minimize movement
- Head is scanned – 1.5 seconds
- Scan is viewed on the computer monitor to ensure quality of the scan
- Scan is emailed to Orthomerica
The head shape is carved out of polyurethane foam on a five-axis carver using the emailed scan data and then a STARband or STARlight is fabricated.
