• Infant’s head is scanned on STARscanner™
• Data is emailed to supplier
• Head shape data is downloaded on five-axis carver
• The STARband™ is fabricated out of high temperature plastic thermoformed over a carved, polyurethane model
• STARband is shipped to orthotist
• Infant receives STARband for initial fitting
• Follow-up visits scan infant for head shape comparisons to evaluate treatment progression

 The Scanning Process

• Infant is placed supine into STARscanner on foam cushion
• Infant’s head is stabilized with hand below jaw and hand over the top of the head to minimize movement
• Head is scanned – 1.5 seconds
• Scan is viewed on the computer monitor to ensure quality of the scan
• Scan is emailed to Orthomerica

Fabrication

The head shape is carved out of polyurethane foam on a five-axis carver using the emailed scan data and then a STARband or STARlight is fabricated.
