Ana Chavira's story
Ana Chavira was just 16 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer in her right knee. In 1997 her whole world was turned upside down, when it was decided that it was necessary to amputate her leg.
At that moment, Ana thought her life had ended, that she would never be an independent person again and would spend her life sitting in a wheelchair. But in the years since then Ana, who is from Mexico, says she has discovered that disability is a matter of attitude and she believes the opportunities to live a life without limitations are really there for the taking.
Ana's story has been an inspiration for a lot of people. It gives a genuine and invaluable insight into the emotional turmoil experienced by new amputees, while bearing witness to Ana's inner strength and determination.
“I choose to believe that I lost my leg for a reason and I've decided to make that reason worthwhile.”
"I invite you to read my story about how I have had the chance to meet and help many people who are in a situation similar to my own. As you read the next few pages, I hope that you too will find a way to improve your quality of life." (Ana Chavira)
