Foot protection and stabilisation

Össur's long list of award-winning designs includes podiatric products like the DH Offloading Walker, a highly-effective treatment for plantar ulcers that is a popular choice of clinicians worldwide.

A foot orthosis is a device that is contoured to the entire foot and used to reduce abnormal motion or an abnormal position of the foot. It can also be used to control abnormal motion or position of the lower limb.

In evaluating the medical need for a foot orthosis, an Orthotist will make a full biomechanical examination of the foot and lower limb, looking closely at the range of motion and muscle activity.

Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia is a fibrous tissue that connects the heel bone to the base of the toes and functions to maintain the arch of the foot. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of this tissue.

Pain is usually at the heel, inside/front location, but can be present along the arch. Pain is likely felt first thing in the morning, during the initial steps after sitting and during prolonged weight bearing activity. Repetitive pulling of the plantar fascia, as with an overpronating/flattening foot, will aggravate the condition.
