Össur impact levels

Many different factors have to be considered when fitting a prosthesis. The general health, height and weight of the amputee are taken into account, as well as the level of amputation and the length and shape of the residual limb. The combination of these and other factors means that some products will be more appropriate than others.

These factors also mean that it is not possible to offer an exact prescriptive tool online. As a general guide, however, the figures below represent a range of activity or 'impact' levels.

When located next to a specific product, these symbols give a basic indication of the impact level(s) for which the product may be suitable.

1. Low Impact level:

Low Impact Level

Designed to enable single or slightly varied cadence walking.

Daily activities involving limited and steady walking with minimal loading force on the foot.

Example: shopping, gardening, household tasks.

2. Moderate Impact level:

Moderate Impact Level

Designed to enable varied cadence walking.

Daily activities involving typically normal and repetitive actions with moderate amount of loading forces on the foot.

Example: longer walks, golfing and other moderate impact activities.

3. High Impact level:

High Impact Level

Designed to enable high cadence walking.

Daily activities involving rigorous and repetitive actions with high level of impact on the foot.

Example: Construction work, jogging, jumping, excessive lifting and other higher impact activities.

4. Extreme level:

Please note, these figures represent Össur guidelines only, not an exact prescriptive tool. Product suggestions are based on the most common amputation levels.
